The quirky billionaire chairman of my company was on CNN Sunday discussing the best advice he had ever received. He reminded me that “A penny saved is a penny” then explained “If you are going to spend your valuable time to create something you’re not going to create anything by spending time looking to find pennies … use that time more wisely “.

Basically, be aware of what your time is worth and don’t be afraid to put some skin in the game. You’ll never become great by watching every penny, you have to relax, spend some money to make some money.

I was thinking about this last night after reading a chapter in a book titled ‘the problem with geniuses’. There are a couple stories about folks who are so damn smart the constantly hedge against loss and never really lay it all on the line so they remain as only dreamers and rarely become success stories.

You have to be in it to win it, it’s 2009! The technology revolution is maturing, each year that passes millions are getting in line ahead of you. I’d give anything to turn back to clock to 2000 again and I promise you folks will be saying “I’d give anything to go back to 2009” in just a few years.

Don’t be afraid to put a few pennies into the game to match your efforts, let’s plan to cross into this next decade with pride in what we have accomplished.
